Weiying is a theatre artist whose work explores transformations of spaces through movement. Her experiences include performing, directing, and education.
At age 5, she joined the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe, performing in their productions. She eventually took on teaching drama classes for children at the troupe, going on to direct several of their performances. Outside of the troupe, Weiying honed her experience with theatre for young audiences by teaching drama in preschools and theatre companies.
In 2015, Weiying took up formalised theatre training at the Intercultural Theatre Institute, immersing herself in traditional Asian theatre forms for the contemporary stage. She continues her research in movement upon graduation, creating work with a butoh-based practice, and training in odissi under the guidance of Raka Maitra. She is currently a teaching artist at Chowk Productions, engaging in an ongoing exchange between odissi and butoh.
Outside of performance, Weiying conducts drama and dance classes for children and senior citizens. She holds a business degree from the University of London (Singapore Institute of Management).
